Objectivity in Science

There is a common myth that scientists is that they are totally objective but it is not true. First of all scientists human and are subject to human flaws that prevent total objectivity. In addition ones philosophical assumptions will always influence ones conclusions no mater how objective you try to be.  Furthermore just knowing something about the topic will inevitably causes a person to form opinions about that topic such that you can only be totally objective if you are totally ignorant.

Take a look at the following video and notice how the blue ball moves.

Most likely you concluded that the gravitational attraction of the larger ball or some other physical force was pulling on the blue ball making its path bend. If you did you have just let your own preconceptions about the real world cloud you thinking about an animation video. The real answer is that I drew the frames of the video to make it do that.

Information Theory

Information Theory: The branch of applied mathematics involving the quantification of information.
Information: A message that consists of an ordered sequence of symbols, or the meaning that can be interpreted from it.

Claude E. Shannon first developed Information theory as part of his research into the fundamental limits or signal processing in 1948. This research was a purely statistical study that did not consider the content or meaning of the information. It also produced what is now the standard measurement of information called the bit. The full concept involves a source of information that produces the message which in turn is converted by a transmitter to a signal. During transmission noise can enter the system and degrade the signal which causes information to be lost. Eventually the signal can be picked up by a receiver where the message is then sent to the destination.

These basic concepts of Information Theory make much of what we take for granted to day possible including computers, the internet, cell phones, and thing we don’t even notice. Information is an important part of life in the 21 first century and in the form of DNA information is absolutely necessary for life to exist at all.

History and the Philosophy and Historical sciences

The further on looks back in history the more information has gotten lost about the events that occurred. It is also harder to know the credibility of available information.  This means that some means is needed to test credibility of source material and to fill in gaps in our knowledge. As a result the philosophical assumptions of a given historian play a major role in his testing of credibility and filling in gaps. This is why philosophical assumptions play a major role in studying History.

A perfect example of the influence of philosophical assumptions is an historian who holds to the philosophical assumption of absolute naturalism. Such an historian would automatically discount any historical reference to a supernatural event. Such an historian would automatically dismiss much of the Biblical account regardless of any other supporting evidence.

What is Sience?

The single biggest problem in science  is defining science it self. The main idea of science is that conclusions are made on the basis of empirical evidence. The evidence comes from experimentation and observation.

The basic process of science is often described in what is known as the Scientific Method. It needs to be noted that is a basic description not an absolute methodology, but it is a good basic description.

It starts with an observation made of some aspect of the universe followed by a tentative description is made, called a hypothesis that is consistent with what is observed.

This hypothesis is used to make predictions that are tested by way of experiments of further observations Modify or abandon the  hypothesis as needed in the light of results.

Repeat steps the previous paragraph as many time as needed until there are no discrepancies between theory and experiment and/or observation.

There is more to science than this, but it makes a good basic description.

Meridiani Planum Mars’ Largest Water Spill

Opportunity landed in the Meridiani Planum region of Mars to be greeted by a sight that was strange even by Mars’ standards. Studdying it from both a local and global perspective clearly shows an area of catastrophic flooding and not the long standing sea proposed by JPL. Meridiani Planum forms a clear splatter large zone across the surface of Mars. The rocks there show clear evidence of being exposed to and eroded by concentrated sulfuric acid making the environment more like that of a car battery than an habitable sea. This shows that Martian geology has a largely catastrophic make up and not a uniformitarian one as seen Part one: Catastrophic Martian Geology

Catastrophic Geology on Mars

As amazing a place Mars as is the uniformitarian claims of form JPL on Martian geology are shown wrong because evidence show that it has a clearly catastrophic nature. Mars’ largest impact basin called Hellas is on the opposite of Mars from the Tharsis plateau with its massive volcanoes. In fact the center of Hellas is exactly opposite Alba Patera’s caldera, Alba Patera has the largest diameter of all of  Mar’s volcanoes  this implies that the Hellas impact triggered the formation of not only Alba Patera but the other Tharsis volcanoes as well, The ash from their eruptions ultimately forming the Tharsis plateau,

Another smaller impact basin called Argyre seems to have been responsible for ripping open Valles Marineris.  In fact the dominant distribution of craters on Mars suggests that they came largely from the same direction suggesting a short period nearly unidirectional  bombardment rather than a longer period of occasional random impacts.

This shows that Martian geology has a largely catastrophic make up and not a uniformitarian one.

The Sixth Day

Genesis 1:31
31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

All Animals Originally Vegetarians

Genesis 1:29-30
29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

Commentary
These verses indicate that man and all animals on the Earth were originally vegetarians.

Creation of Man kind

Genesis 1:26-28
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Commentary
Here God creates mankind. The reference to man being created in “the image of God” is not intended to convey physical similarity as God had not physical form as we know it but God that gave mankind attributes that God himself posses such as freewill, creativity, and intelligence. It is also clear hear that God created mankind to include both men and women.

The command here to “replenish the earth” does not mean to refill as some have claimed. At the time the King James was translated replenish simply meant to fill.

Creation of Land Animals

Genesis 1:24-25
24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

Commentary
The reference to “cattle”, beasts, and “every thing that creepeth upon the earth” are intended to refer to land animals in general. Basically God was finished creating the animals at this time.

Created Kinds

Genesis 1:20-23
20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

Commentary
At this point God created all sea life and flying animals. The Hebrew word translated fowl in verses is `owph. `owph is a general term for flying creatures including birds, insects, bats, and even pterodactyls. The Hebrew word translated as whales is tanniyn and includes not only whales but also serpents, sea monsters, and also dinosaurs.

The implication of these verses is that in day five God created all sea life including aquatic mammals, aquatic reptiles, fish, crustations, mollusks, and other invertebrates both living and extinct. He also created all birds, insects flaying mammals and flying reptiles both living and extinct.

Both the sea and flying creatures are said to reproduce after its kind. This is an expression of the observed biological principle that organisms reproduce the same type of organism. It also involves the concept of “Created Kinds”.  These Created Kinds are the descendents from the same original ancestors. While they are often confused with species, they are now known to be more equivalent to family or in some cases genus.

The Universe

Genesis 1: 14-19
14. And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

Commentary
The greater light mentioned here is clearly the sun and lesser light is clearly the moon. Further more based on ancient usage, the word star would include planets as well. These verses cover the enter universe beyond Earth and verse 19 places the time span a one Earth day.  Further more according to the rest of the Bible these events took place less the 10,000 years ago.

This presents two difficulties: solar heat reaching the surface of the Sun, and seeing distant starlight.

According to the Standard Solar Model heat from fusion at the sun’s core take millions of years to work its way to the surface. There are to two solutions to difficulty.

1. If the sun was created, then the surface could have been created hot with the core serving only to maintain that heat.
2. Some data from Helioseismology; the study of solar vibrations; has suggested a convection solar model that not only get heat to the surface in days, but suggests an age for the Sun of 6,000-13,000 years.

The solution to the difficulty of seeing distant starlight, involve Relativity’s ability to slow time. There are two viable creation cosmologies that use relativistic mechanics in a bound Universe (one with a center and an edge) to produce sufficient time dilation on Earth. One was developed by Dr. Russell Humphreys and is called the White hole cosmology. The second developed by Dr. John G. Hartnett uses Cosmological relativity

The Third Day

Genesis 1:13
And the evening and the morning were the third day.

Commentary
Once again we the term “evening and the morning” denoting this third day as an ordinary Earth day.

Plant Life

Genesis 1:11-12
11. And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
12. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

Commentary
This indicates that land plant life was the first life on Earth, contrary to the theory of microbe to man evolution, which places single cell sea life first..

The implication of the verses is not only God creating the plants but also caused it to grow rapidly. This based on the one day time frame.

Also note the sun did not yet exist; being created on day four; these plants were still bathed in the light that would become the Cosmic Background Radiation.

Dry Land and Sea

Genesis 1:9-10
9. And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
10. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

Commentary
This is the formation of the Earth’s granite continental crust, since most of dry land today is on the granite continental crust. It also includes the formation of dirt and other minerals found on land.

The Firmament

Genesis 1:6-8
6. And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
8. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

The word translated as “firmament” here is the Hebrew word raqiya`. Raqiya` basically means an expanse. It is derived from the word rä·kah' which means to beat, spread or stretch. The English word “expanse” means a large space or area but can also mean an expansion. As a result these verses seem to be referring to a large space with the implication of this space having been stretched out thus fitting Relativity’s depiction space perfectly.

The waters that are below this expanse are clearly a reference to the water on the Earth’s surface. The water above is a little harder to identify. The Hebrew word translated above is `al which can mean above, but also together with. As a result while this could refer to water above or beyond the observable universe, it could also refer to water that is within the expanse of space, and water has been observed in space much of it in comets.

Once again we have the term “evening and the morning” denoting this second day as an ordinary Earth day.

The Primeval Earth

Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

This verse not only shows that the Earth was incomplete, empty and covered by a global ocean. It has been theorized that the Earth was actually a sphere entirely of water. In any case everything was dark and God was there ready to for the next step.

The Light of Creation

Genesis 1:3-5
3. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

This light mentioned above could not have come from the sun because the sun did not yet exist. There are several observations to make about this light. The first is that this light had no source but was created in space by God. This light came from every direction in space as indicated by the need to separate out darkness to make night. This could have been accomplished by use of a dark cloud to block light on one side.

Astronomers have observed this type of light. A light coming from every direction without any observable source, in the form of the Cosmic Background Radiation. (CBR) While this is microwave radiation and not visible light, an expansion factor for the universe of 3300 (from 4.1 million to 13.5 billion Light Years) would convert the visible light to microwaves. This is a much smaller expansion than required by the Big Bang model so it is quit possible.

Note the phrase in verse 5, “The evening and the morning were the first day”. This clearly shows that the days of Creation were normal Earth days.

In the beginning

Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

This is the first verse of the Bible, it is important to note that God is assumed to exist and he is designated as the first cause from which all affects come. Mentioned in this verse are the three main components of the universe space (the heaven), mater (the Earth), and time (the beginning).

In physics, relativity theory shows that space, matter (energy) and time are interrelated parts of the universe such they can not exist separately. It also shows that time is an integral property of the universe that can have a beginning. Furthermore the beginning of time must coincide with the beginning of space and matter and Genesis 1:1 is consistent with this.

How Creationists and Evolutionists could Benefit from Each Other

Creationists and evolutionists are opposite sides of the question of origins. So while full-fledged cooperation is impossible they can still benefit from each other. This is because both sides nave a different perspective from which they see things. There are three main ways in which this difference in perspective is helpful.

Creationists and evolutionists are not always looking for the same things when looking at the same phenomenon. Because of this each side will often acquire different lines of data that both sides can benefit from.

Creationists and evolutionists often see different things in the same data. This can benefit both sides by showing a different perspective than the one is use to,

Since creationists and evolutionists are on opposite side of the same issue they are naturally more critical of the other side than of their own making it easier to see problems. This is not to say that ether side is uncritical of their own side but that an honest criticism from a different perspective is helpful.

This would be nice if it happened in reality but by and large it does not. Some times it can happen in isolated cases but not on in the general case because of the degree of antagonism on both sides. A major problem is the fact that Evolutionists refuse to accept any Creation Science research as legitimate scientific research. As a result Creation Science criticism of evolutionist theories is usually ignored. This lack of respect on the part of evolutionists makes it hard for creationists to take their criticism of  Creation Science research seriously. There in lies the problem these mutual benefits require mutual respect something that does not exist.

Why Creation Science is important

Creation Science is the science of origins from a Biblical perspective. So from a Biblical perspective is helps provide a scientific of origins. This is important for having a complete and consistent Biblical world view. A strait forward reading of the Bible clearly indicates that the Earth and the Universe were created in one week just few thousand years ago and Creation Science shows this view to be scientifically feasible.

Creation Science has produced a considerable amount of research in Archaeology, Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Cosmology, Geology, History, Information Theory, Paleontology, Physics, and much more.

Research in Archaeology, and History evidence shows human history to be consistent with the Bible. Research in Astronomy, and Cosmology have shown that the universe can be only a few thousand years old from Earth’s perspective. Research in Geology has shown that Noah’s Flood could have occurred as described in Genesis and the Earth to be just a few thousand years old. Research in Biology and Paleontology have shown problems with naturalistic models of the origin for life as well as showing the need for a supernatural intelligent origin for life. Research in Chemistry, Information Theory, and Physics, have provided the needed theory for the other researchers.

Siberians share DNA with Neanderthals

>> There was also hybridization between modern humans Homo erectus and
>> Homo habilis sowing these types to be human beings as well.

> Not only that, it proves that they are not extinct. They exist today, so how
> can they be extinct?

True, you can’t really call something extinct if they have living descendents however evolutionists tend to throw that term around as a blanket statement when a particular population can not be found alive any more.

> OTOH, "that's still a tricky process - after all, we don't have any Homo erectus
>or Homo habilis genomes to compare, so we can only guess which parts of the
>modern human genome come from them."

Good point, I did not catch that but it is an interesting possibility. This is somthing to keep an eye on.

Siberians and Neanderthals Interbreeding

"Man's ancestors mated with Neanderthals and other related hominids during human evolution, according to a new study"

This is further proof that Neanderthals were human beings. However it doesn’t stop there.

This link shows that there was also hybridization between modern humans Homo erectus and Homo habilis sowing these types to be human beings as well. This answers the question as to weather not they were human or not. That answer is yes,

Sedimentation in flowing water with video

This is an article that illustrates sedimentation in flowing water with video

Above is a video illustration of the formation of sedimentary layer in flowing water. It is based on both experimentation and observation. The direction of flow is left to right. Note that all three layers are forming together in the direction of flow. This means that the Principles of Stratigraphy do not necessarily work in the real world.

Big Foot a Living Gigantopithecus

Bigfoot or Sasquatch as American Indians call it occasional sightings have occurred right up to the present. It is called Bigfoot from the large foot prints the leave behind but based on the description it is most likely a larger ape.

The most famous Bigfoot footage is the Patterson Film. This film was taken by Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin in 1967 the approximate range to the Bigfoot is about 100 feet. There are those are claims that this film was a hoax bur even if it is; there many other sightings suggesting that Bigfoot could be a real animal. If this film is genuine then it supports the identification of Sasquatch as being a type of large ape. The Yeti of which has been sighted in the Himalayas of Asia. Also known as the abominable snow man; it leaves the same large prints as Sasquatch.

If they are real then what are they? Is there an animal known to science that could account for both groups of sightings? The answer is yes. They are known only by fragmented fossils found in as Asia but they fit the description perfectly. These anumales are a type of large ape called Gigantopithecus. While most of  its fossils are found in Southeast Asia, the possibility that some migration to North America is not impossible. It would stand at 10 feet and would be a prefect match for Bigfoot. So if Bigfoot is real it is most likely a living Gigantopithecus making it a living fossil.

Cosmology the Science of the Universe

Cosmology is the scientific discipline dealing with the origin, structure, and relationships of the universe. A cosmology is any theory or doctrine that describes the natural order of the universe.

Every civilization has had a cosmology going as far back as is known. These cosmologies  have usually taken the form of a philosophically based mythology.  Now increased knowledge in Physics and Chemistry has resulted in a more scientific approach but philosophic assumptions still play a major role in Cosmology.

Edwin Hubble discovered the expansion of the Universe in 1929 by measuring the redshifts of distant galaxies. In 1998 it was discovered the expansion of the universe to be accelerating based on observations of type Ia supernovae.

Cosmic Background Radiation (CBR) is the thermal black body spectrum that is nearly uniform in every direction, It represents a temperature of 2.725 K in that it peaks in the microwave range a frequency of 160.2 GHz, with a wavelength of 1.9 mm. It was first observed in 1965 by Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson at the Bell Telephone Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey. The CBR temperature fluctuations discovered by the WMAP data of the entire sky showed an average temperature is 2.725 Kelvin with tiny temperature fluctuations spanning about 0.0002 degrees Celsius.

The Big Bang Cosmology is the current establishment Cosmology. The model starts with all mater and space squeezed into an infinitesimal dot called a singularity. This infinitesimal dot suddenly underwent an extremely energetic expansion commonly described as an explosion. Over time the heat of this expansion cooled eventually forming galaxies, stars, planets and eventually us. CBR is seen as residual heat from the Big Bang red shifted by the expansion of t he universe. The Big Bang is based on three main purely philosophical assumptions. First there is absolute naturalism with no intelligents or purpose being allowed in the process. The universe is considered to be unbounded with no edge that is no point beyond which there is no mater. Finally there is the cosmological principle which states that the universe looks the same from every place. The goal is to deal with the fact that we seem to be at the center of the universe by making every place look like the center

There Other Naturalistic Cosmologies such as the steady state cosmology which has no beginning or end to the universe but requires a continual source of new matter. There is a new Cosmology called the plasma universe which depicts much of the phenomenon in universe as being electrical in nature. It is not yet fully developed.

Creationist Cosmologies are based on three main purely philosophical assumptions. The first is God as the creative intelligents with purpose in the process. The universe viewed as bounded with an edge beyond which no mater is found. There is a center to the universe and the Earth is near it. Now this is not Geodetic because the universe does not rotate around the Earth Plugging these assumptions along with the observed expansion into relativity results in time dilation at the center where the Earth would have been producing a time line on Earth consistent with the Biblical account. CBR is seen as the light God created on day one red shifted by an expansion factor of about 3,300.

In conclusion Cosmology deals with the origin, structure, and relationships of the universe but is heavily dependent on philosophical assumptions since we only see the universe a one location that is the Earth. Evolutionary and Creationist Cosmologies are based on different assumptions producing different results for the same data.
